Intro to Email Marketing

Posted on 4/17/2022, 2:25:52 PM

With a user base of over 4 billion people, email marketing is one of the most effective marketing channels. In this blog post, you'll learn how to succeed with email marketing.

What is email marketing?

When you're using email to promote business products and services, that's email marketing. You're making customers aware of your latest offerings. You're building relationships, increasing brand awareness, improving customer engagement, and generating new leads.

Different types of emails

There are many different types of emails that you can send to keep the customer engaged

  • Welcome emails are sent when the user signs up for your service. 96% of website visitors are not ready to buy when they come to your website. Your job is to convert them into buying customers. You can do that through welcome emails. Use welcome emails to introduce them to your brand and business in a personable manner. Avoid the sales pitch.
  • Send email newsletters to stay on the customer's mind. Use newsletters to announce new features and to improve retention. Make sure to monitor click-through rates.
  • Transactional emails are sent when a user performs an action on your website.
  • Behavioral emails are targeted messages based on a user's behavior.

Sending emails that are personalized will increase open rates.

What can email marketing be used for?

Email marketing can be used to drive awareness, increase engagement, increase brand awareness, drive traffic, and deliver messages. It's a great way to communicate with your customers at a personable level.

What are the benefits of email marketing?

With an ROI of $42 for every dollar spent, email marketing is an effective marketing channel. It's a great way to build relationships and drive traffic to your site.

How to get started?

To get started with email marketing, do the following:

  1. Set clear goals defined by the desired audience - What exactly do you want to achieve? Do you want to drive traffic? Get people to attend an event? Increase brand awareness?
  2. Build an email list - Make it easy to get people's email addresses. If you can get the email address of everyone who comes to your site, that would be ideal. Then you can send them an email encouraging them to come back and buy.
  3. Have the right content - The average person receives 121 emails per day. Focus on engaging content that is not too spammy and that is engaging for the audience that you are trying to target. Focus on short and snappy and to-the-point content. Make it personable. Using video leads to an increased success rate.
  4. Create a campaign - Are you sending a weekly newsletter? Product announcements? Sharing blog posts that are relevant? What is the campaign that is best for the audience that you are trying to target? Have a separate campaign based on each audience?
  5. Make a schedule - Send emails at a consistent time. For example, if you dedicate to sending emails every two weeks, do so.
  6. Track results - Finally, keep track of your open rates, click-through rates, unsubscribe rates and iterate. Ask yourself, was it the subject line that led to a low open rate? Am I sending too many emails --- Is that why people are unsubscribing?

During the pandemic, many people are working remotely and are relying on emails to keep them engaged. It's a good opportunity than ever before to grab the customer's attention and get them back to your website. There's a lot that email marketing allows you to do. However, don't abuse it or you'll land in the spam box.
